Smartech provided the following design services to various companies:


The design of an HDLC communications controller. The controller is based on a Motorola 68LC302 communication processor and designed to interface to the bus of a PC via a dual port ram. The board is used to provide high speed communications from an external device to the PC for real time processing. The software application was written in C. A server was written for the PC which receives information from the controller supplies this information to other processes in the PC. The server was written in C for the QNX operating system.

The design of an ethernet controller. The ethernet controller is designed to be the hub for numerous medical instruments with serial output, and to transform the serial communications to TCP/IP. This project was an in-house project developed under a grant from the OCS.

The design of a real time protocol converter providing conversion, monitoring and packetizing of information between serial protocols

The management of a project to modify the internal timing of an embedded instrument. The instrument, a portable patient monitor, is based on 80C550 processor and the code was written in PL/M.

Performed critical hardware and software fault analysis for a portable medical instrument.
